Feedback

I had Malcolm test my site and leave feed back:

Name: Malcolm

Email: malcolmblake2015@gmail.com

Website: http://none

Comment: I like how the website is simple and uncluttered. I especially like the crimson on black and grey. Awesome. The step by step guide was easy to follow and I feel confident in getting someone else to follow Justin’s guide. I think the tools could have been pictured and labelled separately at the start of the guide as they are quite specific if you need to order them. The site could do with a site map or quick selection to the pages in the guide otherwise it is very good.

Good validation on your e-mail feild From what I tested…

I also took into consideration the feedback from Micheal from the proposal and added a troubleshooting page, along with the feedback from the presentaion which i have now added a quiz.

Possible improvements and future extensions

The next recording of a tutorial i will use a USB webcam, with the assignment i could only use the webcam on my laptop as did not have access to a better camera.

Also maybe a narrative to go along with the video recording, yet i think it is a lot more helpful to give the user not only video instructions but also the written and edited photos as well.

I will add more tutorials to this site in the future, with guides on iPad’s, laptops etc….

Project plan

I have followed the initial proposal by creating video’s of each step, along with detailed explanations and photos of key points.

I took into consideration the feedback provided by Micheal regarding the flow diagram and have added a troubleshooting page which links back to the appropiate page with references to the corresponding image.

Also added an assessment page, although not the greatest assessment,………. if phone turns on is the only assessment.

After the presentation, i took into consideration the feedback and have now added a quiz regarding some of the steps taken in the dissasembly process.

Teaching and learning effectiveness

I think the learning by use of video along with pictures is a great way to teach by using media the information should be easily absorbed, hopefully this keeps the user interested while also teaching them something useful.

I think by having the steps written along with edited photos to show the main points which correspond with the written steps given, gives the user a more personal experience than just having either photos or a video.

As for an assessment, the only really assessment possible is to check if the repaired phone works on completion.

Technology and technical learning

The first initial technical problem i have come across is how to record the dissassembly of the damaged iPhone. Using only a phone i will need to setup an environment and stand to create the recording.

In the end i had to record the dissassembly with just my webcam, not the best quality but worked OK, in future i will invest in a decent camera.

Using the free WordPress site i am limited to what i could add, ie: i tried to create a check box table in the HTML to check off steps as they are worked through, but to no avail!

Below is a technology map showing the technology used to create my learning object:

techDia

I used my phone to take the pictures during different stages of the process to outline certain key points (small fittings).

I then uploaded these to my laptop to be edited via Photoshop.

Recorded the tear down process using my webcam on my laptop, which i then edited the recording via Camtasia.

Once all the editing had been done, the media was then uploaded to WordPress.

With this site i have created, i tried to keep it simple and easy to follow with minimal things that could go wrong, this should stand the test of time in the future.

Ethical and accessibility issues

I do not think there are any major ethical issues involved with this learning object, the only thing to consider being ethical is the by using my tutorial it may take away business from a store which is offering this service as a price.

Oh and maybe getting sued by apple!!!

With the tutorial on a website which is free to access, it gives anyone who has the problem of a damaged iPhone free access to gain the ability to repair it themselves, all the while being in the comfort of there own home.

This learning object may be accessed anytime any day, so it is easily available when the user requires it.

Personal learning and reflection

Week four

  • Edited the video and cut it into four stages for the different steps of the tutorial
  • Edited the pictures to go with each stage
  • I did not realize how long it would take to create and edit the video recordings, also the editing of the photos in Photoshop
  • Started creating the poster
  • Completed poster
  • Completed the learning object on my website, was hard to think of an assessment as the only really outcome would be if the phone worked or not.
  • After the presentation feedback  i have added a quiz regarding the steps taken during the tear down process

Week three

  • Made the initial recording of the tear down and reassembly of the iPhone
  • Took pictures of key points and fittings for reference for the user
  • Created the pages within the website ready for the content to be added

Week two

  • Made sure i had a damaged iPhone (had to repair a friends for free to be able to make the recordings)
  • Started to customise the website
  • Added my journal reflections to my blog

Week one

  • Had to figure out the best way to setup the website for the most effective learning outcomes.
  • Created basic site and chose template from WordPress
  • Started the Reflective journal in google docs

Assessed Activity 8.2

Apart from when researching, i have never really looked into blogging before this class. After creating my blog and working through the assesments i can now see the appeal of blogging and may keep it up in the future.

Wikieducator, also a first for me, seems a great tool to use for communicatively developing learning materials,  it allows users to collaborate on ideas with the ability to update and change when needed.

Overall i have enjoyed this part of the Digital Learning Tech paper, the only thing that i think may help this paper in the future is that the assesment questions be slightly clearer in there intentions.

Assessed Activity 8.1

http://www.w3schools.com/

W3Schools is a web developer information website, with tutorials covering most aspects relating to web development, these include CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, Bootstrap, and JQuery. I used this site many times for reference throughout my BCS degree, the site is not relevant to my project but is a vary useful online learning tool.

Below is a link to the wikieducator page with a variety of online training courses.

Assessed Activity 7.1, Field Trip

I followed and viewed the field trip to the sustainable cabin remotely via adobe connect. Although the video was slightly grainy (due to the fact of the compression by adobe) and the sound (fishbowl effect) i think the trial using mobile devices was an overall success.

Stephs ipad seemed to be of higher quality as viewed on my PC at home, maybe due to the fact that the resolution of her camera on her ipad has more megapixels.

Mobile device quality was a lower standard to the in class webcam, but this is to be expected due to the quality of the webcam along with the 3G connection of the mobile devices used while outside.
